Everything you need to know about Quill, the AI-powered D&D campaign manager for Dungeon Masters.

Quill is an AI-enhanced campaign manager built specifically for Dungeon Masters running D&D 5e. It helps you organize scenes, manage NPCs, run combat with a built-in battle tracker, and get AI-powered suggestions — all in one place during your session.

Quill runs alongside your session as a digital DM screen. You can track initiative and combat, flip between scenes and events, reference NPCs with their notes and portraits, play ambient audio, and — on paid tiers — get real-time AI suggestions for scenes, NPC dialogue, and improvisation.

Quill is designed for D&D 5th Edition (5e), but its tools are system-agnostic at their core. Scene management, NPC tracking, and the battle tracker work for any tabletop RPG. The AI features are tuned for D&D 5e language and conventions.

Yes! The Scroll tier is free forever and includes full campaign management: scenes, events, NPCs, battle tracker, ambient audio, party characters, and reference links. You get one campaign with 100MB of storage. AI features require the Tome ($9/mo) or Grimoire ($19/mo) tier.

Scroll (free) gives you full campaign management for one campaign. Tome ($9/mo) adds 3 campaigns, 500MB storage, and AI assists — 10 scene suggestions and 20 NPC dialogue generations per month. Grimoire ($19/mo) gives you 5 campaigns, 2GB storage, unlimited AI, a live companion chat, persistent NPC memory, and session recaps.

The Grimoire AI companion is a live chat that knows your campaign context — your active scene, events, NPCs, party members, and campaign tone. It helps with improvisation, descriptions, NPC dialogue in distinct voices, rules clarifications, and creative suggestions. It adapts to your campaign's tone (heroic, horror, mystery, etc.).

Available on Tome and Grimoire tiers, scene suggestions use AI to generate ideas for your next scene based on your campaign context. The AI considers your active scene, recent events, NPCs involved, and campaign tone to suggest what could happen next — great for prep or mid-session improvisation.

No — Quill is a companion to D&D Beyond, not a replacement. D&D Beyond handles character sheets, rules, and content. Quill handles what happens at the table: session management, scene flow, NPC tracking, combat, and AI-assisted DMing. They work great together.

Yes. You can cancel your Tome or Grimoire subscription at any time from your account billing page. You'll keep access to your paid features until the end of your current billing period. Your campaign data is never deleted — if you downgrade to Scroll, campaigns beyond the free limit become read-only.

Yes. Quill uses Supabase for authentication and data storage with row-level security — your campaign data is only accessible to you. We never share your data with third parties. AI features use Anthropic's API with no data retention. Images are stored on Vercel Blob with per-user isolation.

While Quill is optimized for D&D 5e, the core tools — scene management, NPC tracking, battle tracker, ambient audio — are system-agnostic and work for Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, or any tabletop RPG. The AI features reference D&D 5e conventions but can adapt to other systems.

Quill offers 10 campaign tones: Heroic, Dark Fantasy, Whimsical, Horror, Epic, Intrigue, Mythic, Gritty, Mystery, and Pastoral. Each tone sets the visual theme of your campaign and — on AI tiers — shapes how the AI generates content, from scene descriptions to NPC dialogue.
